A Little TLC

This past weekend we were featured on the fun blog TLC Parentables. I am so glad they asked us to contribute to their round-up of fun, no-carve pumpkin ideas. Our washi tape pumpkin tutorial is fun and really simple so if you would like to try it out you can find it right here.  Enjoy this little sneak peek of the post below.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. The picture below shows you how we spend much of ours. Unfortunately, this only represents maybe 1/4th of the packages we have shipped lately for Alexis Mattox Design. We love staying busy though!

Happy October

I am so excited that it is October so that I can finally post about a project I love- washi tape pumpkins! It is such a simple DIY decorating project that you can easily have a full patch of adorable fall pumpkins in 30 minutes. There are only a few small items you need to make this project and the best part is that there is no messy clean-up like carving pumpkins and they will last for the whole fall season.

We have a lot of really wonderful fall washi tape designs to choose from and the photo below shows off a few that I think would be great for Halloween.

Check out our washi tape patterns here.

This project is so simple that you really only need 4 items and if you don't have a bone folder (the cream tool shown above) that is no problem. The tutorial for this project is really intuitive so I will mostly just tell you some tips that I learned doing this.

  1. Clean your pumpkins- I just washed them quickly under water to make sure the dirt is all removed and there is nothing sticky on them. This is an important step so that the washi tape will stick properly.
  2. Apply washi tape any way you like. You can buy them here. The white pumpkin shown above has the tape in vertical stripes and the orange pumpkin has random scraps of different black and white patterns. You can try other patterns such as chevron, horizontal stripe, or plaid. It would also be really cute to make a monogram with the tape or other shapes like a witch's hat.
  3. Use the bone folder if you have one to smooth the washi tape and press out any crinkles. There will be some small crinkles as the tape goes around the curves of the pumpkin. If you do not have a bone folder you can just use your finger nail or another smooth object like the handle of your silverware.

And here is the final product! I think they look so adorable. The white pumpkin is my favorite! I used a black polka dot tape in the center with the orange lace tape on both sides to make it look like one really wide tape. To add contrast I cut the black diagonal stripe tape in half to make a really thin line.

I hope you all try this project! I would love to see any images of your creation. You can send them to info@alexismattoxdesign.com. Happy October!

New Halloween Products

Our new spooky Halloween designs are so adorable and are available as cards and artwork. They are all created from hand-drawn illustrations that really add a lot of character. The three designs are a spiderweb, a haunted house and a trick-or-treat collage.

Here are the Halloween cards:

And here is the haunted house artwork. Doesn't it look great in the thick black frame? I think these are such great decorations for Halloween. Maybe I can show off some pictures of them up in my house soon! (Yes, those are washi tape decorated pumpkins in the background. Check back soon for the DIY tutorial).

And don't forget that our website grand opening sale ends this Sunday at midnight so hurry and stock up on cards, artwork, straws and washi tape for Halloween!

Lace Inspiration

We have been adding a lot of new products to our little shop and there are many more changes coming soon. I did want to show off these beautiful lace inspired cards that have been in our shop for a few weeks, but haven't been featured yet on the blog. I think they are some of my favorite. They are so classic and intricate and basically everything a laser cut card should be. What do you think? They are sold individually and each lace design comes in a different colored soft speckled paper. Check them out here.

This beautiful lace was actually drawn from the French lace on my wedding dress. It always makes me happy to see it.

Sneak Peek

I want to show off a quick sneak peek of our latest upcoming products...handmade, engraved books! This is a quick sampler of one of our new book styles. Our books feature one of our original designs and are engraved, cut and sewn by hand from quality materials so your book will be totally unique. Each book we create has beautiful engraved covers made from wood or high quality acrylic and has approximately 128 pages. The books are hand-bound in a traditional style that allows the book to lay completely flat when open and would be a great sketchbook or journal. And of course, they are available for customization for babies and weddings, etc. I can't wait to show you all the new books we have coming soon!

Craft Lake City Part 2

I wanted to follow-up from the last time to say thank you to everyone who attended and participated in Craft Lake City. It was so much fun to have a show in downtown Salt Lake and to have so many people visit the fair. We met a lot of very nice people and it was a great way to spend our weekend. I hope you all had a good weekend too.

Can you tell it was a little windy? Visit here to see Craft Lake City's wonderful bio of us.

We also sold a lot of new products at the show that aren't available online quite yet. Watch for them soon!

Adorable Paper Straws

We are happy to announce that we now sell paper straws! They are so adorable and great for parties. We have 15 styles available to choose from and to top it all off, they come with super cute printable paper flags in eight different designs!

The printable flag designs come in four different shapes in both striped and polka dots. You will receive them for free with any purchase of paper straws. All you have to do is leave your email address and which color you would like. They don't come with any printed text, but I think they are perfect for writing in a special message for a birthday or wedding. The image below is a sample of some flags that I wrote on for a graduation party.

We had a lot of fun doing the photo shoot for the paper straws. It was by far the most delicious photo session we have done so far in our company. Here is the evidence:

Custom Birthday Cards

Did you all know that we offer custom printing for all of our cards? We do and it is super simple to get them for yourself! When you order cards for a party or event, there is also a volume discount available. Contact us if you are interested.

I want to show off some cute invitations we recently made for a little guy's first birthday party using the birthday pattern cards available in our shop.

See more of these cards here.

Our customer chose her own colors and a unique message to include inside each card. Since the cards are for a little boy's party, we switched the pink and purple card to red and yellow.

We mean business

Until recently, I am ashamed to admit that for a paper company we had horrible business cards. They weren't what I wanted at all, but they were a nice fit in our budget since we got them for free. But, now I am here say that we mean serious business with our business cards. I hope you like them and if you would like to see them in person, just order something from us and we will send it along with your order! ;-)

The design is laser-cut into beautifully thick paper and we made it in many different colors. When we showed them off last weekend, everyone was very excited about them. I hope they don't up-stage our actual products!

What do you think? Definitely better than our old cards!
